Distance Coach
Mike brings a versatile background and a process-first philosophy. "Focus on the process, not the outcome." Inspired by his former coach Frank Reynolds, Mike focuses on building a team atmosphere where dedication, commitment, and fun go hand-in-hand. He believes that the lessons learned on the track are tools that athletes will carry with them for life.
Mike’s own athletic career was defined by versatility. He holds personal bests in the 400m (50.13) and 800m (1:55.70), while also excelling in field events with a 1.97m high jump PB and a love for the javelin. Because of this unique background—often running, jumping, and throwing in the same meet—Mike has a specialized understanding of how to balance training programs for multi-event athletes or those juggling other sports.
Some of his most fond memories include representing Team BC in the BC versus Alberta dual meet, and at the 2007 Western Canada Games (competing in High Jump, 800m, and Steeplechase)
Cross country highlights include racing in the Great American X-C Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina, as well as the National Cross Country Championships in Toronto. When he isn’t coaching, Mike runs Timberknot Woodworking, a local business specializing in marine and residential woodworking. He loves exploring the outdoors, hiking, and foraging in Whistler and the North Shore mountains with his wife and their two daughters, ages 6 and 8.
