NorWesters 2009 Annual General Meeting

Hello to all NorWesters athletes, parents and coaches,

Mark your calendars now and plan to attend the NorWesters AGM on Tuesday November 17, 2009 at 7:30 pm. (That's two weeks from today). Bill Koch has kindly agreed to host and will be serving food and drinks. See attached notice for location and directions.

It is extremely important that we have a quorum so that we can hold the AGM. Completion of the AGM is critical to the club’s continuing as a non-profit society by BC legislation. Quorum for an AGM is 15 votes. Adult athletes have 1 vote, parents of children who are younger than 19 years of age have 1 vote per athlete, and Board members have 1 vote.

Your attendance is necessary to ensure a quorum.

The agenda for the AGM will be sent later.

See you there,

Birgit Weaver
President, NorWesters Track & Field Club

Welcome back Athletes!

Hopefully your holiday was a restful and exciting one.
This coming week fall training is starting up. This is the time of year when the Grade 7's move to the Grade 7/8/9 program and the 15 year olds move to the 16+ group. So please note this and attend your correct age group.

The older athletes will start practices this coming week. Younger athletes will have this week to get used to their new school program and activities and we will see you the following week.

Some of you will want to attend cross country meets. Watch for a posting of events that you can attend.

It is beneficial to all athletes to run cross country events in order to improve your endurance. Sprinters improve their times at summer competition when they do. You may set your goal to finish, rather than win if you are sprinter.

Not all of you find cross country your thing. However, it is important that all athletes attend the fall training as this is the basis for improvement in summer track and field competition. Practices are organized to meet the needs of all athletes not just cross country runners. Some strength building for sprints, jumps and throws is incorporated into all practices. And the distances and speeds run will depend upon your aptitude.

See posted schedule (click here) for group times.
Dawn Copping Programs Coordinator.

VOLUNTEERING - BC ATHLETICS OFFICIALS There are many volunteer opportunities within the NorWesters Track and Field Club. From leadership and organizational support to coaching, helping at practices and meets, to attaining sponsorships, there are many ways. We know life is busy and everyone has busy schedules, but even a few hours a month can make all the difference in the lives of our young and aspiring athletes.

Our Club supports the BC Athletics Officials program, and many of our members volunteer and work with them at events. NorWesters has six registered BC Athletics officials and would like to have more trained people.

BC Athletics Officials are trained volunteers who work at Track and Field, Cross Country and Road events. These are the people who ensure the fairness/measurements/fun and organization of the track meets we all attend. Many are parents, but some are athletes, active or retired. Young athletes can join the Under-18 officials program to enhance their understanding of the sport, and accumulate credits for school programs. We encourage our members to get involved. Visit the BCA Officials Web Page for the latest information on training and certification as an official.
