NorWesters Runners On Top at the Pinetree Classic

NorWesters Track and Field Club runners were prominent at the September 11th Pinetree Classic cross country race in Coquitlam. First place finishes were recorded in three categories in this first race of the Lower Mainland Cross Country series.

Kyle Clegg, a Juvenile, was first across the line in the 3.6 km men’s high school event, holding off a late surge by Michael who finished only a 10th of a second behind Kyle. Fifteen year old Chantelle Groenewoud outsprinted Heather Mancel, an experienced 17 year old, to win the girls high school race. Another first place medal was awarded to Grade 7, Simon Bill who comfortably took the 2.6 km 1992 race. Alexandra Bill raced to a second place finish in the 9 and 10 year old girls event.

A strong participation from the Club was evident with fifteen athletes ranging in ages from 10 years to senior. We look forward to a dominant presence in this fall’s cross-country season.
