NorWesters Outstanding
at BC High School Track & Field Championships
(Vancouver, June 13, 2004) A dozen NorWester Track & Field
athletes represented their lower mainland high schools at the provincial
track and field championships held at Swangard Stadium June 4 and
5, 2004. This talented group of athletes garnered eight medals;
“an amazing achievement!” noted Marian Adair, NorWester
Club president. The depth of the accomplishments ranged from middle
distance and sprints to jumps and throws.
Grade 10, Kevin Lim, was outstanding placing first in the 400 m
with a time of 48.66 and setting a new national under 17 year old
outdoor record. Kevin followed this up with a second place finish
in the 200 m with a time of 22.33.
Chris Winter, who has already qualified for the world Junior Championships
in Italy this summer, came away with a silver in the 3000 m and
gold in the 2000 m steeple with a time of 5:50.86 – just missing
the record by 0.61 seconds
Emily Sheppard won silver in high jump clearing 1.67 m and Shawn
Yeulet received a bronze medal in shot put with a throw of 13.79
m.
Ali Hudson captured silver in both the 800 m and 1500 m steeplechase.
Following behind Ali in the steeple was Chantelle Groenewoud 5th
and Casey Berardo 7th. The girls continued a strong showing in the
middle distance events with a 5th place showing by Stacey Dennis
in the 1500 m and Grade 9 Chantelle Groenewoud placing 5th in the
800 m.
