Chris Winter and Emily Sheppard bring home medals from the Canadian Junior Championships

Chris Winter, still suffering from jet lag from his return on Thursday from the World Junior Championships in Grosseto Italy, still had enough in the tank on Saturday to run away from the steeplechase field at the Canadian Junior Championships in Saskatoon. Despite the heat, blustery conditions and jet lag, Winter dominated the event from the gun surging to an early lead he never relinquished and finishing 20 seconds up on the next runner in 9:09.96. Sheppard high jumped well finishing 3rd in 1.67m but below the mark she established at the Trevor Craven two weeks previously of 1.73m. Emily, however is still a Juvenile athlete and will have 2 more cracks at victory in future Junior Championships. Another NorWester highlight was the inspirational performance of Kevin Lim in the final event of the meet the 4x400 relay. After going out too fast in the 400 semis on Saturday, but still making the final, and then going out too slow in the final to finish 6th, Kevin put it all together as Team BC's anchor man. He took the baton in first place but was passed on the backstretch by the Cal Track anchor. Kevin did not panic, stayed close then passed him at the line to secure the win for BC. It was a classic demonstration of patience, desire and timing on the part of Kevin.
