CHRIS WINTER HONOURED AT BC ATHLETICS AWARDS

February 10, 2004 (Vancouver, B.C) 17 year-old Canadian running sensation Chris Winter was honored as JUVENILE MALE TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETE OF THE YEAR and JUVENILE MALE CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE YEAR at the recent BC ATHLETICS AWARDS BANQUET.

Winter, a member of the leading NORWESTERS TRACK & FIELD CLUB on Vancouver’s North Shore enjoyed extraordinary achievements last year including a third place at the World Youth Games, a gold medal (Canadian Record) in the Steeplechase and a Personal Best at The BC High School Track and Field Championships.

Most recently, at the Canadian Junior Cross Country Championships in November, Winter ran against the nation’s best, placing 6th and qualified for the Canadian Junior Cross Country team going to the 2004 World Championships in March.

Chris is also a Sport BC male high school athlete of the year award nominee. Winners will be announced at the Sport BC banquet March 9, 2004.

Other highlights for the Club include Emily Sheppard's nomination to the Canadian World Youth Team and her gold medal in the high jump at the High School Championships where many Norwesters ran personal bests. NorWesters also enjoyed extraordinary performances at the 35th annual BC Elementary Track & Field Championships and dominated the well-attended North Shore High School Finals at Swanguard.

The Norwesters Track & Field Club is a community oriented, volunteer based organization. This not for profit club, provides high quality coaching, specific training, and superior competitions. The Norwesters promote and develop wide participation and high proficiency through their regular programs and at 3 meets of its own, every year; the Elementaries, the Trevor Craven Memorial and the October Cross Country Meet.

Clearly, NorWesters, the leading Track and Field Club, is raising the bar for Canadian Track and Field by setting new standards of performance for athletes of all levels on the North Shore and beyond.
