ERIN BELL
Erin accomplished a lot as an athlete. From 1987-89 each
year she won a Junior Development award for outstanding achievement.
She competed on several Provincial teams and made the Junior
National team in 1992 for placing second at the Junior National
Championships in the Heptathlon. She won several medals at
Provincial and National track meets over the years from 1988-93.
She competed mostly as a Heptathlete, but was often an individual
medallist in the HJ, LJ, TJ and hurdles.
She competed as a high performance athlete from 1988-93,
and showed great potential as a teenager. From 1988-1992,
she won aggregate age-group honors at the North Shore Champs,
and qualified for the BC High School Championships. Bell set
a high standard for future north Shore athletes as many her
North Shore records still stand today. In grade 12 Bell
claimed no less than four golds at the BC High School
Championships for her victories in the LJ, TJ, Hurdles and
the heptathlon. She would also add a silver by the end of
the weekend as her team won the 4 by 100m relay. She would
be recognized as the ‘Most Inspirational Athlete’
of the meet. She would also win the ‘Most Outstanding
Athlete Award’ at West Van Secondary where she attended
school.
Unfortunately her athletic career was short lived, injuries
led to her stopping as a competitive athlete altogether. She
always new she wanted to be able to give back to the sport she
loved and to the track club which supported her achievements.
Luckily last year, for NorWester’s, she was able to
start her coaching career. Now in her second year as a coach
with NorWester’s she is completing her NCCP level two,
and brings a tremendous breadth of athletic experience to
the club. She is looking forward to coaching with NorWester’s
for years to come and in the future for Provincial or possibly
National teams. |
