NorWesters Policy re. Meet Entries for Athlete Members

NorWesters Track and Field club will pay for 6 meet entries for age 9 to 15 years in a weekend. (3-4 in on one day not all 6 in one day) Youth, Junior and Senior athletes may enter 4 events per weekend , not all 4 in one day. Please make sure that athletes are prepared and ready to compete in an event before they are entered. Have them check with their coach if they are unsure. Athletes aged 9 to 13 should compete in some runs, jumps and throws each weekend.

Athletes must reimburse the club for meet entries when an athlete does not follow though and compete. (medical exceptions must be excused by the meet coach) Payment must be received before entering future events.

Only the meets published here will be paid for by NorWesters. The coaches feel that these are the most valuable and best events for NorWesters athletes participation.

How the Series Works

The Lower Mainland JD & Midget Cross Country Series provides an opportunity for Junior Development and Midget athletes age 9-15 to compete in a number of cross country races throughout the fall/winter season. Use the Series to prepare for Championship races!
The Junior Development & Midget Series consists of 6 races in September and October. The Juvenile/Junior/Open/Masters Series consists of 8 races. All races are sanctioned by BC Athletics.

Runners will be scored on their 4 best performances. Any completed races count towards the series.
The points are assigned as follows: 1st = 30 points, 2nd = 27, 3rd = 25, 4th = 23, 5th = 21, 6th to 25th each place drops 1 point.
Any ties will be decided by position in the BC Provincial Championship event.
Runners must compete in the appropriate allocated race in order to score in their series. For example, if a junior runner elects to compete in a separate senior race then he/she cannot score in a separate age-appropriate event on the same day.

Series Categories and Awards

The series age categories are based on the year of birth: 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Plaques will be awarded to the top 3 boys and girls in each age group.

VOLUNTEERING - BC ATHLETICS OFFICIALS There are many volunteer opportunities within the NorWesters Track and Field Club. From leadership and organizational support to coaching, helping at practices and meets, to attaining sponsorships, there are many ways. We know life is busy and everyone has busy schedules, but even a few hours a month can make all the difference in the lives of our young and aspiring athletes.

Our Club supports the BC Athletics Officials program, and many of our members volunteer and work with them at events. NorWesters has six registered BC Athletics officials and would like to have more trained people.

BC Athletics Officials are trained volunteers who work at Track and Field, Cross Country and Road events. These are the people who ensure the fairness/measurements/fun and organization of the track meets we all attend. Many are parents, but some are athletes, active or retired. Young athletes can join the Under-18 officials program to enhance their understanding of the sport, and accumulate credits for school programs. We encourage our members to get involved. Visit the BCA Officials Web Page for the latest information on training and certification as an official.
